Brett Van Alen

Oct 22, 1985 — Dec 17, 2023

Thanks to Brett's addictive personality you could never get enough of him. His enthusiasm for life was infectious. Like the mushroom who buys all the beer, he was the fungi to be around. Willing to try anything three or four times, he rewarded us with more admiration, angst, and appreciation than could fit into his 38 years. We never got to grow old with Brett but all who knew him wanted to. Especially his parents, sisters, and nephew in his hometown of Juneau, Melanie, Benjamin, Vanessa, Melissa, and Trenton, and his partner, Keaysha Brown in their Virginia home. Even his cat's name was Lucky. As a fisherman, mechanic, and cook, commercial fishing was his vocation and avocation. Brett's helpful, hardworking, fun-loving nature was a positive influence for all. On land or sea, with Brettie, you'd want to be. With joyful memories and unbelievable sadness, we thank Brett for being Brett, for sharing his life with us, and for being a friend to all. His death certificate reads "pending" but take his lead and support sober living and vocational training programs wherever you are. Nothing beats friends "growing old" together. All are welcome to a celebration of life potluck at the Juneau Yacht Club on Saturday May 4, 2024 from 4-7PM. Questions, or photos for the slideshow, may be directed to Ben at (907) 723-2995.
