Charles Richardson

The first 20 years of his life, Charles lived with his now deceased parents Marie Teresa Ruf and Desmond Peel Richardson at their new home in La Puente where they moved to in 1950 from Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born to them in Cincinnati. on August 22, 1937. At the age of 12 he moved with his parents and his decease older brother, Gerald and sister Kathleen (of Ripon, CA) to California.

In 1952, Charles graduated from Huston Elementary School in La Puente where he was the Student Body President in the 8™ grade. He graduated from Covina High School in 1956 where he was capitan of the track team in his senior year. He graduated from Mount San Antonio City College in 1959 and then from California State College (NOW UNIVERSITY) at Los Angeles after 11 years, (mostly going to night classes) where he received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Management in 1967.

At the age of 20, he married Alyce Margaret Kuehl on January 5, 1958. That marriage produced 3 children (La Von, Craig and Jeff, ) and they produced 7 grandchildren (Jeff Jr. Joseph, Jennifer, Timothy, Alyse, Ryan and Tara) and 11 great grand children. all surviving his death. He left behind a number of nieces and nephews as well.

He has confess to God asking Him to forgive him his trespasses and with Charles strong belief in a just Jesus/God, knowing how much God loves his children, he is confident that His forgiveness will be forth coming. Charles believes strongly that he will be in Heaven with his wife Alyce who died on March 7, 2023, friends and relatives enjoying eternal peace and happiness finally free of the aches and pains of old age.

Charles' working career began at the age of 13 where he started working as a box boy for a local grocery store just up the street from where he lived in La Puente, CA. with his parents and sister.

His brother Gerald was attending West Point at that time. While at Mt. Sac he was a member of the State Champion Track team. He worked part time for Shopping Bag grocery store and the US Postal Service where, one day, he met a route customer who got him a job as a Meter Reader at the Southern California Edison Company.

He was very proud of having worked for SCE for 34 years rising through the ranks to a supervisory position.

His career began in December, 1958 and lasted until his retirement on December 8, 1992.

At this time of his death, he has been in retirement for 32 years. Charles was quite happy working for such a fine company. Not only did SCE afford him good employment, SCE had given him and his wife Alyce a comfortable retirement and wonderful medical benefits as well. He was also very proud of the fact that during that 34 years of service to SCE he only missed 50 days of work, that on the whole, he felt it was exciting to go to work at the various positions he had held over his 34 years of distinquished service. He was awarded a STAR MATERIAL PLAQUE at his 30 years of service awards dinner.
