Chris Capehart Mays

Chris Capehart Mays, 76, a son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 4, 2026, in Oxnard, California, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Chris was born on August 22, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, to James and Geneva Mays. In 1956, the family moved to Camarillo, California, where Chris and his brother, Keith, were raised on Calle La Roda. The family home became a special gathering place for family and friends for more than 50 years. Chris attended Camarillo High School and graduated in 1967.

Chris worked for many years at Adohr Farms for Carl Hastings, where he developed a love for cattle, horses, and the ranching way of life. He later followed in his father's footsteps and became a truck driver. He worked for Rob Frost at ETS before eventually starting his own rock and sand trucking company, which he operated for more than 30 years. Chris was also known for his talent for building arenas and was considered by many to be one of the best around. Those who knew Chris on the road will likely remember his purple Peterbilt, which he took great pride in keeping polished and spotless.

Chris was also a member of E Clampus Vitus and especially enjoyed spending time in the Sierras with some of his closest friends.

Chris is survived by his sons, Ryan Mays, Matthew Mays (Katherine), and Cory Mays; his daughter, Breanna Hazen (Charles); his brother, Keith Mays (Jeanne); four grandchildren; and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Geneva Mays, and his first cousin, Larry White.

Chris will be remembered for the life he built, the work he loved, and the mark he left on those who crossed his path.

A memorial service honoring Chris's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, California.
