Elva Marin

September 11, 1943 — December 31, 2025

Elva Marin, age 82, of Oxnard, California, passed away on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025, at her home, wrapped lovingly in her daughter’s arms. Elva was born on September 11, 1943, in Marfa, Texas, to her parents Alfonso (Pop) Faver Bustillos and Manuela (Mom) Montanez Bustillos of Shafter, Texas. Her father is a descendant of Milton Faver, who was the 1st white man to settle in west Texas and was a well known cattle Barron of the region. Elva came to California when she was just 1 ½ years old and was raised in Santa Paula in a close and loving family alongside her 9 siblings. Elva graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1961. She met and married her first husband, Joe Jess Villa, in 1962 with whom she had a beautiful daughter, Debbie. Shortly thereafter, she was expecting their 2nd child, when tragedy struck. Joe passed away from a sun stroke while on a hunting trip at just 24 yrs old. He never had the chance to meet or hold his 2nd Daughter, Jody. Despite this heartbreaking loss, Elvas’ deep-rooted faith, determination and resilience carried her forward as she committed herself to building a life for her two young daughters. Elva pursued her first passion in nursing, working in the delivery rooms at Santa Paula Hospital. She married her second husband, Edward R. Marin, with whom she welcomed her third child — a son, Eddie, who grew up to inherit his father’s witty charm. Elva eventually left nursing and joined Edward in the cosmetology field. They opened their own beauty salon (Mr. Eddie’s Coiffeurs) in Oxnard. Mr. & Mrs. Marin went on to compete in hair show competitions resulting in numerous 1st place awards. In1988. Elva returned to school where she earned her Psychiatric Technician license and began working at Camarillo State Hospital until its closure. Her early retirement didn't slow her down. She continued her work in the private mental health sector, providing support to those with challenging mental health issues.
