Florentino Ortega Salinas

Our beloved father and grandfather Florentino "Tino" Ortega peacefully passed, May 24, 2023 in Bakersfield, CA surrounded by his loving family. He loved his family and enjoyed spending his time with them. He also had a great love for animals especially his horse, Baby. Dad enjoyed fixing cars, helping others, singing, and sharing his life stories. He was born in Camargo, Chihuahua on October 16, 1938 and immigrated to the United States as a bracero in 1954.

His first stop was in New Mexico, where he worked with cattle, picked cotton and walnuts. In 1966 he moved his family to Oxnard, CA to continue his work in agriculture. Settling in Saticoy, Ca. Dad continued to grow his family and establish roots for his future grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad moved to Santa Paula in 1987 and raised pigs, goats, chickens, geese, cows, his bull "Wind", and his horse "Bud". His grandchildrens most precious memories were spending time with grandpa at the ranch. In 2002, Dad moved to Bakersfield, Ca where him and grandma accomplished their dream of purchasing their first home. There he established new frienships and enjoyed spending his free time at the ranch, baseball games, and with his grandchildren/great grandchildren. Grandpa was blessed with 10 children, 31 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. Juan Magallnes, Rosie Arguelles, Hugo Magallanes, Anna Arizaga, Saul Ortega, Elizabeth Vásquez, Sophia Contreras, Angie Ortega, Lucy Guzman and Vicente Ortega.
