d. February 4, 2010

Francisco "Frank" Rivas, Sr., went willingly to our Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the age of 88. Francisco was born in EI Paso, Texas to Fortunato and Guadalupe Rivas on October 24, 1921. Frank was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in the Army-Air Force from 1942 to 1946 then reenlisted into the Army-Infantry from 1948 to 1954.While on furlough in 1948 he met Rachel Guerrero and they married in 1950. Frank attended school in EI Paso but was forced to leave school after the eighth grade to join the work force and help his family financially. Frank knew the importance of education so while working a full time job he attended night classes at San Gabriel High School adult education program where he earned his high school diploma and went on to earn an A.S. degree from Mount San Antonio College in Pomona, California_ Frank was proof that it is never too late to learn and was a great inspiration to his family. Frank was a "people person,' he enjoyed being with family, friends and neighbors. He believed it was important to give back to the community and was a volunteer at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he received Volunteer Recognition in 2006.Frank never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special occasion, he always sent a card or called. Frank had a positive attitude even while nearing the end of his life here on earth. Francisco is survived by his son Frank, Jr., daughter-in-law Mari Rivas of Fort Collins, Colorado; son Michael Rivas of Aiea, Hawaii; daughter Rachel and son-in-law Michael Medlen of Oxnard. Francisco truly loved his five grandsons, Daniel and Joshua Rivas, Trevor, David and Kevin Medlen. Frank also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
