Ignacia Mora

d. December 19, 2009

Passed away on Saturday December 19, 2009 at age of 87. Born Ignacia Lara in El Paso, Texas on February 10, 1922 to Luis and Soledad Lara. She was married in 1939 to Lino Mora in Chihuahua , Mexico. Nina was raised in Ojai, California, the eldest of 5 sisters, and was an active member of her local Girl Scout troop. She and her family moved to Chihuahua, Mexico while she was in her teens, where she taught English and later met the love of her life, Lino Mora and was married in 1939. In 1940 they welcomed their first son, Luis, before traveling back to California where they settled in Ventura and gave birth to their second and last son Ernie in 1947. In 1955 they opened up what would become the local favorite, El Charrito Restaurant on the corner of Thomson and Chrisman in Ventura, where they gladly served many customers that became lifelong friends, including members of the St. John’s seminary. Nina and Lino enjoyed travelling to Mexico with their family and friends and participating in charitable causes such as orphanage benefits in Tecate, Mexico. Nina enjoyed dancing, baking, swimming and praying her rosary. A devoted Catholic, Nina regularly participated in overnight vigils and was a devoted member of the Guadalupanas church group at the Ventura Mission. She and her husband Lino were padrinos (godparents) to hundreds of children and adults in both Mexico and California. In 1998 her husband Lino passed away in their 59th year of marriage, and Nina took ill shortly after. She spent much of her later life in Camarillo, where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her youngest sister Sally Bermudez of Los Angeles, her two sons Luis and Ernest Mora who respectively reside in El Paso, Texas and Camarillo, California with their wives Martha and Ketta. Nina is also survived by and will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Joe Mora, Laura Guerrero, Alina Baltazar, Darla Brown and Tammy Mora, who lovingly refer to her as Nina and Ita, as well as her five great grandchildren. She is preceded in Death by her sisters Mary Carlos, Stella Lara, and Nellie Soreano, all from Los Angeles. The Mora Family would like to extend their gratitude to the Mission Manor Rest Home in Camarillo for their gracious care of Nina in the final months of her life.
