James (Jim) Lee Brooks

James (Jim) Lee Brooks Jr (age 60) passed away on June 5, 2024 at Kaiser Hospital in Woodland Hills. Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Bradbury Brooks, father, James Lee Brooks Sr. (Jimmy), and sister, Valerie Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and his daughter, Madison; his brother John Brooks, his sister, Diane Wahl; his stepdaughter, Valerie; stepson, Christopher; stepdaughter-in-law, Tessi; and step-grandchildren, Adrian and Lily. 

He was born on February 6, 1964, in Oxnard, California, to James Lee Brooks Sr. and Betty Bradbury Brooks. As a young boy, Jim was active in sports, and spent quality time with his family and close friends. Jim graduated from Oxnard High School and attended Ventura College, where he played football. He then transferred to California State University at Long Beach on a full-ride football scholarship and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in business. Jim married Janice Astadan, and they had their daughter, Madison ("Madi") Brooks, on September 1, 1996. After divorcing Janice in 2010, in 2015, Jim was reaquinted with his former high school girlfriend, Kim Carnes. In August 2017, they were engaged and married on September 1, 2018. Jim became a stepfather to Kim's children, Christopher and Valerie.

He worked for many years and retired from Farmers Insurance Company. His favorite pastimes included traveling, spending time with his close family and friends, and watching the Dodgers and Raiders games and other sports. We will greatly miss his patience, thougtfulness, witty humor and the special way that he loved each and every one of us.

Please join us in celebrating Jim's life which will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, beginning at 10:00 AM (private viewing), 11:00 AM (public viewing) and 12 pm for service at the Perez Family Funeral Home Ventura, 3150 Loma Vista Rd, Ventura, 93003. Burial will follow the service beginning at 2:00 pm at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA 93012. Please prepare for warm weather and limited seating. 

Following the burial service, the family will have a reception at Cisco's Mexican Restaurant at 1712 E. Avenida de Los Arboles, Thousand Oaks 91362, in the Garden room. In memory of Jim, we encourage you to please wear your favorite resort attire such as Tommy Bahama.
