Judith Ann Arata, 75, of Moorpark, California, passed away on July 31,2023
at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, California after a five-year battle
with ovarian cancer.
Judy was born to parents Virginia Marie (Kusnerik) Smith and James R.
Smith, on October 19,1947 in Trenton, New Jersey. She graduated
from Notre Dame Catholic High School in 1965 and went on to
study at Helene Fuld School of Nursing, graduating in June of 1968.
Judy met David Joseph Arata in 1975. Devout Catholics, they were married
on June 23,1979 at St. Mary Church in Bordentown, New Jersey. Together
they raised 3 children while residing in Hoffman Estates and
Freeport, Illinois. She and Dave relocated to California in 2008.
Judy enjoyed caring for others and had a brief career in nursing, but found
her real passion in caring for her family and raising her children. She was a
wonderful and devoted mother. She volunteered with many organizations
and after school activities her children participated in when they were young.
In her free time, she often enjoyed word puzzles and various crafts. Judy
and Dave visited their children as they moved with their families around the
country. She adored her grandchildren and was thrilled when they came to
visit.
Judy is survived by her husband Dave of 44 years, son Matthew David Arata,
daughters Michele Christine (Nathan) Cannon and Robin Leslie (Billy)
Mollenhauer, brother Thomas James Michael (Pat) Smith, 4 grandchildren
Amelia Cannon, Ethan Cannon, Evelyn Arata, and Woodrow Mollenhauer and
many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and
great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Virginia and James, and nieces
Vanessa (Smith) Shick and Yvonne (Smith) Humphrey.
The family has entrusted Perez Family Funeral Home with the arrangements.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for August 21, 2023 10:00 am at Holy Cross
Church, Moorpark, California with burial to follow at Assumption cemetery in
Simi Valley, California.
Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Active Adult
Center in Moorpark California where she and Dave spent some of their free
time. (Donation checks may be made out to the City of Moorpark and sent to
Active Adult Center, 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, CA 93021).
