Maria del Socorro Becerra (Coquis), 67, of Ventura, California, passed away early on May 20, 2026.

Born on April 21, 1959, in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, Mexico. Maria was the daughter of the late Jose Thomas Becerra and Maria del Rosario Martin-Becerra.

Maria was known for her dedication and everlasting devotion as a wife and mother, her sense of humor and generous spirit, and her unwavering commitment to her beloved church community.

Maria enjoyed teaching catechism, cooking and baking for her loved ones, and spending time tending to her plants and garden. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura, CA, where she volunteered numerous hours teaching in religious youth programs and formed many lifelong friendships.

She is survived by her four children: sons Ricardo (Ricky), Juan Alejandro (Alex), Eric Tovar, and daughter Jennifer Tovar; and her grandchildren, Allyson, Derick, and Aubrey Tovar, and Rosalia Arreola.

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her sister, Carmela Martin, and her nephew, Jose Avalos.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, followed by a Rosary from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Mass promptly at 11:00 a.m. All are invited to attend.

Interment will take place at Mansion de la Paz in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, on June 18, 2026.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the family and friends who helped make her final wish of being interned with her mother and father in Mexico come true. We cannot express enough gratitude as a family. Thank you to all our loved ones who made this possible.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church youth program.

Maria will be remembered for her devotion, kindness, generosity of spirit, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.



María del Socorro Becerra (Coquis), de 67 años y residente de Ventura, California, falleció en la madrugada del 20 de mayo de 2026.

Nacida el 21 de abril de 1959 en Tepatitlán, Jalisco, México, María era hija de los difuntos José Tomás Becerra y María del Rosario Martín-Becerra.

María era conocida por su dedicación y devoción inagotable como esposa y madre, por su sentido del humor y espíritu generoso, así como por su compromiso inquebrantable con su querida comunidad eclesial.

Disfrutaba impartiendo catecismo, cocinando y horneando para sus seres queridos, y dedicando tiempo al cuidado de sus plantas y su jardín. Fue miembro durante muchos años de la iglesia *Our Lady of the Assumption* (Nuestra Señora de la Asunción) en Ventura, California, donde dedicó innumerables horas como voluntaria en programas religiosos para jóvenes y forjó amistades duraderas.

Le sobreviven sus cuatro hijos: Ricardo (Ricky), Juan Alejandro (Alex) y Eric Tovar, y su hija Jennifer Tovar; así como sus nietos: Allyson, Derick y Aubrey Tovar, y Rosalía Arreola.

Además de sus padres, le precedieron en la muerte su hermana, Carmela Martín, y su sobrino, José Ávalos.

El velatorio se llevará a cabo el martes 16 de junio de 2026, de 9:30 a. m. a 10:30 a. m., en la iglesia *Our Lady of the Assumption*; a continuación, se rezará el Rosario de 10:30 a. m. a 11:00 a. m., seguido de la misa, que comenzará puntualmente a las 11:00 a. m. Todos están invitados a asistir.
