María Carmen (Godínez) Hinojosa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, tía, and friend, died at the age of 89 on September 8, 2025 surrounded by her children and family. María was born to Agustín and Petra Godínez in Léon, Guanajuato, Mexico on May 6, 1936.
She moved to Moorpark, California with her family in the early 1950’s, and held a variety of laborer jobs at local citrus orchards and Egg City. In 1957, María met her husband, Joe Ciro Hinojosa in front of the historic Moorpark Theatre on High Street. They quickly married and began their family. She spent the better part of her life tending to her children, her garden and flowers, and her community. She was an active member of Club Amistad Latina, the Guadalupanas of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Lords Table, Catholic Charities, and the Senior Center of Moorpark. In 1995 she achieved the long-time goal of becoming an American citizen. In her final years, she cherished every milestone of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was known for her love of dancing, crafting, and celebrating life.
Those who will carry on María's legacy include her husband, Joe Hinojosa, her sister Peggy Palacios, and her five children: Annabel Moreno, Mike Hinojosa, Joe Hinojosa Jr., Sonia (Rudy) Garcia, and Mirna (Paul) Almaguer. Her eleven grandchildren: Joey Hinojosa, Andrew Moreno, Amber (Jonathan) Crockatt, Joel (Megan) Moreno, Nadia (Michael) McGee, Lucas Hinojosa, Adam (Valerie) Almaguer, Alan (Breanna) Almaguer, Leanna (Thomas) Pagano, Aric (Jessica) Almaguer, and Gabriel (Selena Moore) Garcia. Along with her fifteen great-grandchildren: Lynnea, Jacob, Alivia, Kaydince, Addelynn, Saydie, Granger, Aria, Ella, Austin, Timothy, Aries, Carmine, Weston, and Aaron. María joins in eternal rest her parents Agustín and Petra Godínez, and her siblings, Agustín Jr. (Cuca), Jesus (Lupe), Juanita (Manuel), Francisca, Elvira, and Jose (Celia).

Thursday, September 25, 2025 - Rosary at 6:00 pm, Perez Family Funeral Home, Camarillo, California.
Friday, September 26, 2025 - Rosary at 9:30 am and Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Moorpark, California, with reception to follow in the Cosgrove Center. Burial will be at 1:30 pm at Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley, California.
María was a woman of deep faith, whose kindness, love, and prayerful devotion touched everyone who knew her. Her legacy of faith and love for God and family will continue to guide generations to come.
