Thelma Tyler Coker

July 30, 1928 — December 7, 2023

Thelma Tyler Coker (95), formerly of Santa Paula, passed away in her apartment at Fillmore Country Club in Fillmore on December 7, 2023.

Thelma was born in Marion, Kansas, on July 30, 1928 to Wilbur C. and Laura M. (Swisher) Tyler. Her family moved to Bakersfield during the Dust Bowl days and migrated to Santa Paula in 1941 where she resided for 61 years of her life living in the Limoneira Ranch and the city of Santa Paula. She worked for many years at the Briggs, Mupu and Limoneira packing houses. Before retiring she worked at Bermite Corporation in Saugus, Calif.

Because of her husband’s love of fishing, Thelma and George, retired to 5-Mile Landing in Topock, Arizona near the Colorado River where she and the family had vacationed for over 40 years. They resided there until George’s death in 2007.

She enjoyed many neighbors and friends through her time at the Limoneira Ranch; City of Santa Paula; Five Mile Landing, AZ; Oaks Mobile Estates and Fillmore Country Club. She will be remembered for her smile, humor and caring personality.

Thelma is survived by her daughters Brenda (Jack) deJamaer of Santa Paula and Carla (Mark) Compton of New Lenox, Illinois; grandchildren Shannon (Rodrigo) Munoz, Jake deJamaer, Brandi Compton, Sgt Mark Compton Jr., 11 adoring great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband George; daughter Kathy Coker Wyand; parents Wilbur and Laura Tyler; brothers Jack and Gene Tyler and sisters Corrine Kidd and Helen Campbell.

Burial services will be held on Dec 14 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Paula Cemetery under the direction of Perez Family Funeral Home. Memorial Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the LifeWay Baptist Church, 673 W. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula with Pastor Mike Newman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Angel of God Hospice of Camarillo.
