Emblem

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Thomas Daniel Segovia, Sr. On December 13th, 2025, in Oxnard, CA, “Baca,” as we lovingly called him, was called to be with the Lord with his dedicated and beautiful wife, Mary, by his side. His beloved children, along with his extended family and friends, were with him until he took his last breath after a brief illness.

Baca was born on February 16th, 1949, in Ventura, California and he was the fifth of seven children born to Louie and Irene Segovia. He grew up in El Rio on Balboa Street and attended Rio Mesa High School. After graduation, he joined the Armed Forces and served in the United States Army honorably defending our Country in Vietnam. He anxiously returned to his wife Mary, to continue building his life with his family. Baca attended two years of junior college and began his career as a laborer and mason, proudly working with Laborers Union Local 585.

As a young father, Baca loved to take his children camping and fishing. He became known in his neighborhood as the dad who invited all the kids along, sometimes having to make several trips so no kid was left behind. He and his wife, Mary, also had the only backyard pool on the block, welcomed everyone all summer long and on hot school days. Along with being a generous host to a slew of kids, Baca loved going to Las Vegas. Once a trip was planned, he would meticulously iron his clothes weeks in advance, for a fun-filled vacation with his family. An avid fisherman, he spent many years taking open season trips to Bishop with his friends and family.

Baca was simply fun to be with. He loved telling jokes and was always ready with a good one. He was a generous man who would give the shirt off his back for any family member in need. A lifelong Elvis Presley fan, Baca loved everything Elvis and loved to show people his Elvis driver’s license or play his Elvis guitar. He also loved sports and never missed the chance to watch a game. Reading the sports section of the newspaper was a daily ritual, keeping him up to date on everything sports.

No matter how you knew him-Tommy, Cabaca, Baca, Darling, Father, Bubba, Papa, Brother-in-law, or Nino, he was an amazing husband, father, grandparent, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, Godparent and friend. He always kept in touch and made his daily calls to ensure no one needed anything or went without. He also lovingly embraced Diane Schisler as a daughter, a role he proudly claimed and cherished.

He is preceded in death by his son Jess Segovia; his best friend and brother-in-law Joseph Jess Gavia; his parents Louie and Irene Segovia and his brothers Louis “Flecha” Segovia and Charles “Doggie” Segovia.

Baca is survived by his beautiful wife of 58 years, Mary Segovia, his high school sweetheart, the love of his life and his constant companion, whose strength, care, and unwavering love carried him through his life and until his final moments. Together, they built a beautiful family and a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and faith. They often finished each other’s sentences, laughed at each other’s jokes as if hearing them for the first time, and walked hand in hand through both joy and sorrow. United in love, they shared in their grief over the loss of beloved family members and faithfully made weekly visits to the cemetery, honoring those they held close in their hearts. Their marriage was a true testament to enduring love, companionship, and unwavering commitment. He is also survived by first-born daughter and his pride and joy, Gracie Segovia (Rick Estrada), his namesake, Thomas D. Segovia, Jr. (Carla Tapia), his baby, Fernando “Dutis” F. Segovia (Lucy Gomez) and grandchildren Philip, Jazmin, Brittany, Atyanna, Andrew, Jordan and great grandchildren Haylee, Madelyn and Alexander.
