Known to her family and close friends as “Betsy”, Yvette Marie McCrory-Toves, 63 of Fillmore, CA was called to the Lord on February 5, 2026. Born to Henry and Gracie (Bustillos) Hurtado on February 28, 1962 in Santa Paula, CA. Yvette grew up in the company of her many aunts, uncles and cousins in Ventura County, CA. Yvette attended St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, CA and was a cheerleader for the sport teams.
Yvette was preceded in death by her mother Gracie and lovingly remembered by her father, Henry Hurtado, brother Christian Hurtado, daughter Ashley (Matt) McCrory, son Nicholas (Angie) McCrory, nephew Corbin Hurtado and niece Morgan Hurtado along with extended family members and a multitude of friends whose lives she touched. Yvette grew up in the Catholic faith and found strength and comfort in her relationship with God.
Yvette was employed in the insurance industry, specifically workers compensation. She began her career in the public sector with State Compensation Insurance Fund and moved on to the private sector with Employers Direct Insurance which became Pacific Compensation Insurance and turned into Copperpoint Insurance. She ended her thirty year career as a premium audit reviewer. Many of her coworkers became dear friends.
Yvette’s husband, Eddie met the love of his life, Yvette on June 1996 at a BBQ picnic. He was captivated by her smile and warm caring heart. They were engaged in 2005 and wed on October 29, 2011.
Yvette’s daughter Ashley and son Nick were the center of her universe. As a single mom she poured her heart into nurturing, supporting and guiding them. She loved them so much and put their wants and needs before anything else. She was so proud of their accomplishments and would let everyone know that she was their mom. Yvette loved her shopping and lunch adventures with Ashley. She would come home and exclaim to Eddie “look at all my treasures. She had fun visiting Nick in Boston, MA and Portland OR. Nick would be the tour guide and take his mom to see all the sights.
Yvette loved nature and the outdoors. She like running, hiking and swimming but most of all enjoyed her walks with her labradoodle Nani. To Yvette Nani could do no wrong. Yvette would say “she’s the best dog ever”.
Yvette fought a courageous battle with breast cancer. Diagnosed in 2019 she underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Throughout her treatment she never complained. After being in remission for four years the cancer returned in 2024 and metastasized to her bones. Despite a valiant effort Yvette succumbed to the ravages of this terrible illness.
Yvette will always be in our hearts. Her kindness and love will be in our memory forever.
